“Kim Depole is a passionate artist and a consummate professional. We had initially proceeded on our own in a halting, piecemeal fashion, but realized early on that we needed help to bind the elements together into a holistic vision. No one could have done a better job than Kim did. First and foremost, she brought a joie de vivre to the enterprise that transformed what had become drudgery into delight. We immediately appreciated her commitment to working in respectful conversation with us, particularly her ability to tease out our often inarticulate intuitions. What we realized only over time was just how good she was at urging those intuitions into vivid practical life. During our work together, we were repeatedly dazzled by her encyclopedic knowledge of design from many different cultural traditions (African and Asian as well as European, avant-garde and playful as well as classical), her vast array of connections (with painters, landscapers, electricians, furniture makers, wood workers, etc.), and her Proust-like attention to the details that cumulate to compose an atmosphere (in the foyer alone, a three-inch border of paint that laps over the ceiling to create the sense of being inside a lacquered box, a custom-made metal stand affixed through a wall that permits a large nautilus-shaped canvas lantern to float without visible cords, and personalized etch-a-sketch plates by the front door that allow our dogs to create signature art rather than gouging through the wall). All this was done within our stated budget on a brutally tight timeframe. Those seeking an omni-competent designer who also happens to be a sterling human being need look no further than Kim Depole."
